Evidence Gene expression analysis of epithelial markers (Cdh1, Epcam, Gjb1, and Cldn3) and mesenchymal markers (Cdh2, Cd44, Axl, Vim, and S100a4) revealed that the early KIC neoplastic cell population assumed an epithelial expression profile (Figure 2, A and C).Consistent with late KIC tumors, 2 distinct cancer cell populations expressing Krt18 and Sox9 were noted in late KPfC (60-day-old) tumors 1 was marked by epithelial markers, such as Gjb1, Tjb1, Ocln, and Cldn3, while the other was marked by mesenchymal markers, such as Vim, Cd44, Axl, S100a4, and Fbln2 (Figure 3C and Supplemental Figure 6A).
